75. Crashing a 70th Birthday Party

Day 75
Location 16: London
Jan. 14, 2023

The London Underground is one of the most famous public transportation systems in the world, along with New York City's Subway and Paris' Metro. The famous "Mind the Gap" slogan is printed on t-shirts, mugs, and more as a testament to how synonymous it is with London's identity.

One of the reasons for the Underground's prestigious reputation is its dedication to providing travelers with vital information throughout the stations. Today, I experienced this first hand:

London is also famous for their incredible food. Okay, not really. But they do have a pretty bopping Chinatown complete with the typical Chinatown restaurant signs. For example, I passed this sign that is perfectly normal and has no strange characteristics at all.

At night, I crashed a birthday party. Let me clarify: my friend Galit invited me to a bar for her friend's birthday party. Unbeknownst to any of us, there was another birthday party taking place on the same night at the same bar. The second party was celebrating the 60th birthday party of a local teacher, who seemed really sweet.

By the end of the night, we all felt like we had grown up with her. Not because we talked to her or anything, but because there were photos of her as a kid scattered throughout the bar as decoration. Naturally, I grabbed one of the photos and asked her to autograph it with an added message sharing some of the wisdom she'd picked up throughout the years.

Oh yea and in the Underground, I saw a busker playing Country Roads which marks the third time in this trip that song has come up.
