42. It's a Small, Small World

Day 42
Location 8 & 9: Amsterdam & Brussels
Dec. 12, 2022

My Brussels hostel was a simple, unassuming place to stay for my first of two nights in the city. Inside, however, something grand awaited. Not the decorations or amenities, but the company.

I shared my room with two French guys and after a few minutes of chatting, we discovered our travels had overlapped in Amsterdam. That's an understatement. Here are some of our discoveries:
  • Only two days earlier, we had been standing 10 feet (~3 meters) apart in the exact same bar, Belushi's, watching the England v. France world cup game.

  • One day before that, we had been in the same exact bar about 20 feet (~6 meters) from each other.

What a small world. After we calmed down about the coincidences, they told me an odd story. The story ends up being another coincidence, so I'm going back to the list:
  • "In Bratislava, we met this guy with a boob", they announced. I guess they read the unimpressed look on my face because they clarified "he had a normal nipple, and one girl's boob". Naturally, I asked for a photo. Teddy began to pull up a video of the nipple-boob-guy his phone, but before he could even hit play I had to stop him. "I KNOW HIM!" The Mr. Nipple in question had been in my room in Budapest, although I had never seen his uniBoob. In fact, the only reason I had remembered him was he had licked the bottom of a barefoot girl after she had walked around outside. It was disgusting. But hey, I guess he had bigger boobs--I mean problems--to worry about.

What a small, small world.

Me and the boys had a splendid time together. We robbed an old lady, we saw a guy climbing scaffolding, and tried to teach Teddy how to pronounce "throughout" in English, which proved to be an insurmountable task.

EDIT AS OF DEC 29, 2022:

After posting this blog, I received a message from Bianca, who I'd met earlier in my trip. She had read the blog and couldn't believe that she had spent a day in Bratislava with these two guys. In the blog about recognizing people and how small the world is, she recognized the people. Nice.
