Day 40
Location 8: Amsterdam
Dec. 10, 2022
Is Amsterdam internationally-friendly? Yes.
Want an example? Okay. The main library features a modern design and supremely cozy working areas. No, that's not what makes it internationally-friendly. You see, this library has books, like any library. But unlike any library these books have symbols to denote the type of book you're holding.
Below is a video showcasing the symbols for every type of book or novel imaginable and below that is a table where I break down their supposed meanings:
And here's the table deciphering each symbol's meaning:
Symbol | Type of Book |
Horror Story: Think Steven King or R.L. Stine.
Recipe Book: Pictured here is the classic Dutch sandwich consisting of:
| |
Murder Mystery Novel: The killer always kills two people simultaneously and it's up to the detective to figure out how.
Romance Novel: After a date, a woman leaves behind not her phone number, but rather a copy of her footprint. It's up to the man (who has poor eyesight apparently) to track her down, proving he really loves her.
Historical Textbook: A brief history of the modern American school system.
Science Fiction: An account from the perspective of a sentient motorcycle helmet (shown here). The helmet must learn to control its powers and decide whether it will use its sentience to destroy humankind or to better it.
Fantasy: A story about a family where the parents stay together.
Tragedy: A story about a man who has mashed potatoes for a brain and must fight to overcome his disability, a la My Left Foot or The Elephant Man or whatever's going on with Mitch McConnell's chin/neck. |
Just want to say a quick sorry to my mom and dad about the divorce joke above. I'm not bitter, I just thought it was funny. You are both wonderful parents and I can't imagine having had any better of a childhood. Thank you very much, I love you.
